Located on Church Street, the Riverdale Police Station and Fire Department #1 serves the community of Riverdale, Georgia, just south of Atlanta. The original structure was constructed approximately 40 years ago with subsequent additions for various uses.  The building is approximately 30,000 square feet.  The project entailed a complete renovation while maintaining operations of the police department.

Our Solutions

Phase 1: Interior renovation of approximately one-third of the facility to allow police and fire operations to continue in their current locations. The Phase 1 area was able to be vacated prior to construction.

Phase 2: Temporary relocation of fire station operations to another facility while we renovated the Fire Station area.

Phase 3: Temporary relocation of the police station operations to Phase 1 area and renovation of the Police Headquarters.

*Exterior modifications and alterations were completed throughout the project including a complete reroof.

As a result, we were able to perform a full renovation of a police department while letting staff maintain their work areas in the building. Our team handled the demolition of the current structures, taking it all down to drywall. We then refinished the floors, upgraded the lighting, and painted the interior.

After grading the land, our team cleaned up the landscaping and exterior of the buildings. Lastly, our team installed a new awning for shade and weather protection and constructed a new storage building.

Overcoming Challenges

The phased approach of the project, along with close communication and coordination with the City of Riverdale allowed for a successful renovation of the facility.  Understanding the difficulties of maintaining a satisfactory work environment while completely remodeling an old structure is one of the keys to success.  During the renovation, multiple issues had to be coordinated and skillfully executed: re-roofing, heavy demolition, relocation and temporary shutdown of facilities, and maintaining the 911 operating system.  The project was successful because of the close coordination and teamwork required by all parties – City of Riverdale, Design Team, and our construction team.

We would like to thank the City of Riverdale for this opportunity and their cooperation throughout this project.  Teamwork is key to any successful relationship, and we appreciate their efforts!
